Music and crochet, reclaimed
A few new things to report.. seem small but to me are huge, triumphant accomplishments.
First, I can listen to music again. I’m not sure I’ve mentioned it but since my injury almost 2 years ago, music has been virtually out of my life. Yes, I listen to EquiSync tracks (less now than before), and the occasional elevator musak in the shops were ok (mostly anxiety building). But for the most part, music was just another thing my brain had to sort out, and even the softest most well-meaning tune I couldn’t tolerate.
Now… some days I’m able to listen to about 15 – 20 whole minutes of simple songs, some old R&B, some jazz, some nice instrumental!! I’ve got myself Spotify subscription and leaving it basically to their pretty good algorithms to feed me sets. Celtic singing is good too. Yum. I’m so happy!
I’m strumming the ukelele but because my left hand is gimped (ulnar nerve etc.), I’m thinking wind-instrument instead of strings. The whole strings, fingers and chords and notes is too complex just yet. Maybe a clarinet or other reed instrument? I’ll see.
I’m also able to do a bit of knitting and crochet now!! Yay! In fact, I’ve found a pattern for pretty winter headband that I need to wear to keep my head (and brain) warm in cold temperatures. A year ago, I picked up my pussy hat project (I know, don’t @ me with why it doesn’t matter), and still couldn’t get past the first three rows. I swear I knit 2 hats but have only 3 misshapen rows of worn out yarn to show for it.
Fast forward to today. I’m slow, and not perfect, and I do make mistakes and have to take out a whole bunch and start again, but it’s actually happening!!
